Lucille Cassell

Lucille is a lifelong Missourian and an entrepreneur. Her career has spanned 40 years in childcare/development, office administration, and entrepreneurship.

Prior to launching CBD Enterprises, she was the owner/operator of Wee-Care Christian Academy. She later founded Cotton Bottom Diapers Enterprises and launched the world’s first 100% cotton-lined disposable diaper brand, FANCY BOTTOMS, which she invented. During her career, Lucille has served in numerous leadership capacities, including consultant and advisor to Missouri Bootheel Regional Consortium on health services for infants and pregnant moms; Eligibility Expert to Missouri Department of Social Services on eligibility criteria and standards; and Special Advisor to Heart to Heart International on community health matters. She also served in governance roles in numerous other public, private and nonprofit organizations, all of which provided her the experience and expertise to helm Cotton Bottom Diapers Enterprises, LLC.

FANCY BOTTOMS originated from the personal need of Lucille’s second child requiring a non-irritating disposable diaper that did not exist on the market. Her son had very sensitive skin and had to wear 100% cotton, cloth washable diapers.  In 1989, she codified her new diapering concept in a cotton-lined diaper and was granted a patent for this concept in 1997. Subsequently, FANCY BOTTOMS disposable diapers was born.

Lucille’s vision is for FANCY BOTTOMS to become a nationally recognized brand, building a product line consisting of a range of safe and effective consumer products that promote healthy skin. But for now, for the first time in history, parents have the “Comfort of Cotton and the Convenience of a Disposable” for their babies.

Lucille is enshrined in the St. Louis Black Inventors Museum and is featured in Who’s Who of American Women. She has been married for 39 years and has four sons and nine grandchildren.
